Pathjump help
Getting started
The first time Pathjump starts, a short tour helps you pick favorite folders and lets you try it on a practice Save dialog.
After that, open or save a file in almost any app. The Pathjump panel appears beside the dialog with:
- Favorites, numbered 1 to 9.
- Recent folders you opened from or saved to.
- Folders open in Explorer.
- A search box.
Click a folder and the dialog jumps there. Whatever you typed in the file name box is kept. Pathjump lives in the notification area (the tray). Right-click its icon for Pause, your Favorites, Settings and more.
Favorites and recents
To pin a folder, right-click it in the panel and choose Pin to favorites, or add one in Settings › Favorites. Reorder favorites there to change their numbers.
Right-click any folder in the panel for Unpin, Open in Explorer or Remove from recents. A favorite that was moved or deleted shows Missing, with Locate… and Remove.
In Settings › Recents, choose how many folders to keep, clear them, list folders never to remember (%TEMP% is on the list already), or Export… your favorites, recents and last folder per app as a CSV or JSON file.
Keyboard shortcuts
While a boosted dialog is in front:
- Ctrl+1 to Ctrl+9 jump to favorite 1 to 9.
- Ctrl+R shows your recent folders, and Ctrl+E the folders open in Explorer. Press a number to pick one.
- Ctrl+Shift+J puts the keyboard in the panel's search box. Use the arrow keys and Enter to jump, Esc to leave.
These work only while a boosted dialog is in front, so they never get in the way elsewhere.
From anywhere, Ctrl+Alt+J opens the folder switcher. Change it in Settings › General.
Panel placement
The panel docks on the side of the dialog with more room, or the side you choose in Settings › General › Panel side. It never covers the dialog, and it moves when the dialog moves.
- Click the panel's collapse button to shrink it to a thin tab. Turn on Start collapsed to always begin that way.
- When there is no room beside the dialog, for example when it is maximized, the panel stays hidden. The switcher and shortcuts still work.
Turn Boost Open and Save dialogs off in Settings › General to leave every dialog alone for a while.
Dialogs Pathjump leaves alone
- Apps with their own custom dialogs aren't recognized. Pathjump works with the standard Windows Open, Save and folder dialogs.
- Apps running as administrator aren't boosted.
- Excluded apps: add any app in Settings › Exclusions and Pathjump won't touch its dialogs.
- Offline network folders show Unavailable and never slow a dialog down.
In all of these cases the dialog keeps working as usual, and Ctrl+Alt+J still opens your folders in File Explorer.
Keyboard shortcuts
These work from anywhere in Windows while Pathjump is running.
| Action | Default shortcut |
|---|---|
| Open the folder switcher | Ctrl+Alt+J |
Trial and license
Pathjump is free to try for 14 days, with everything turned on. After that: The panel keeps showing your favorites, and they still jump. Recents, search, Explorer windows and last folder per app need a license. Your history stays viewable and exportable.
Entering your license key
- Buy a license. Your key appears on screen as soon as the payment goes through, and arrives by email.
- In Pathjump, open the License page in Settings.
- Paste the key and choose Activate. The PC needs to be online for this step.
Using it on more than one PC
One key works on up to 3 PCs. To move it to a new PC, deactivate it on the old one from the License page first. If the old PC is gone, free up its place at Manage devices, using the email address you bought with or the key itself.
Once activated, Pathjump works offline. When it's online it checks the license about once a week, so a refunded or revoked key stops working on its next check.
Bought Pathjump in the Microsoft Store? The Store edition is licensed through your Microsoft account instead, and doesn't use a key.
Updates
To get the latest version, choose Check for updates in Pathjump. It asks before installing anything.
Each update is checked against a fingerprint (SHA-256) before it runs, and installs over the current version without touching your data. Updates for the Microsoft Store edition come through the Store.
See what’s new in each version.
Your data and uninstalling
Pathjump keeps its settings and data on your PC, in this folder (paste it into File Explorer’s address bar to open it):
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Hedgerow\Pathjump
To back it up, quit Pathjump and copy that folder.
To uninstall, open Windows Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find Pathjump and choose Uninstall. The uninstaller asks whether to remove your data too.
Still stuck?
Email support@hedgerowapps.com and we’ll get back to you. Mention your Pathjump version (shown in Settings › About) and your Windows version. More answers are on the support page.
