Hearloop and your privacy

This page sums up what Hearloop does with your data. The Hedgerow privacy policy covers every app, the website and purchases in full.

What stays on your PC

  • Settings and data live in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Hedgerow\Hearloop on your PC.
  • Your sessions, settings and the list of recordings Hearloop has made.
  • Your recordings, saved to Music\Hearloop or the folder you choose, with markers in a small text file beside each one.
  • A small note for each recording in progress, so an interrupted recording can be recovered at the next start.
  • Up to 10 recent crash reports, kept on the PC whether or not sending is turned on.
  • A trial start date in the registry under your user account (Direct edition).
  • A Start with Windows entry under your user account, on by default and turned off in Settings › General (Direct edition).

When Hearloop goes online

  • License activation (Direct edition): when you enter a key, Hearloop sends the key, your PC’s name, the app’s name and an anonymous device ID to our license server. About once a week it checks the license again, sending the key and the activation’s ID.
  • Update checks (Direct edition): only when you choose Check for updates. The request includes the app’s name and version, nothing else.
  • Crash reports: off unless you turn them on. If Hearloop crashes, it saves a report on your PC; with reports turned on it also sends that report, with file paths removed, to crash.hedgerowapps.com.

Good to know

  • Hearloop records audio only from the apps, devices and microphones you add to a session, and only while a recording is running or scheduled. Audio is never uploaded.
  • To show which apps are playing sound, Hearloop lists running apps and their audio sessions on the PC. Nothing about them is sent anywhere.
  • Crash reports, if turned on, contain the app and Windows versions, the time and the error details, with file names and paths removed. They never include audio.

Microsoft Store edition

The Store edition doesn’t contact our license server or check for updates itself: Microsoft handles the purchase, the license and updates, under Microsoft’s privacy statement.
