Linkfork and your privacy

This page sums up what Linkfork does with your data. The Hedgerow privacy policy covers every app, the website and purchases in full.

What stays on your PC

  • Settings and data live in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Hedgerow\Linkfork on your PC.
  • Your rules, browser choices and settings. The links you click are never logged or stored.
  • A list of the browsers and profiles found on the PC, including profile names, so the picker opens quickly.
  • A trial start date in the registry under your user account (Direct edition).
  • A browser registration for web links (http and https) under your user account, written by the installer and by Make default, and removed by Remove registration or uninstalling (Direct edition).
  • A Start with Windows entry in your user Run key, on by default (Direct edition; turn it off in Settings › General).

When Linkfork goes online

  • License activation (Direct edition): when you enter a key, Linkfork sends the key, your PC’s name, the app’s name and an anonymous device ID to our license server. About once a week it checks the license again, sending the key and the activation’s ID.
  • Update checks (Direct edition): only when you choose Check for updates. The request includes the app’s name and version, nothing else.
  • Crash reports: off unless you turn them on. If Linkfork crashes, it saves a report on your PC; with reports turned on it also sends that report, with file paths removed, to crash.hedgerowapps.com.

Good to know

  • To match rules, Linkfork works out which app a link was clicked in, from the program that opened the link or the app in front. This stays on the PC.
  • Linkfork reads each browser's own profile list, read-only, to show profiles in the picker. For a Chrome-style profile with a generic name, it may show the name of the account signed in to that profile.
  • Link cleanup happens on the PC. Linkfork never looks links up online.
  • Linkfork checks the Windows default-browser setting while it runs, so it can tell you if Windows changes it.

Microsoft Store edition

The Store edition doesn’t contact our license server or check for updates itself: Microsoft handles the purchase, the license and updates, under Microsoft’s privacy statement.
