Hourtrail quietly notes which app is in front, its window title and, in supported browsers, the site you are on. Idle, locked and sleeping time is left out. At the end of the day you get a timeline of what you worked on.

Assign time to projects on the timeline, by dragging, or with rules that cover past and future activity. Then see reports and export a timesheet. Everything stays on your PC, with no account.

What it does

  • Automatic tracking

Records the app in front, its window title and the site's domain in Edge, Chrome, Brave, Vivaldi, Opera and Firefox. No browser extension needed.

  • Day timeline

A vertical timeline of colored blocks by app or project. Zoom in, click a block for details, or drag across a range to assign it.

  • Projects and rules

Rules like "if the window title contains ClientX, assign to ClientX" apply to past and future time, with a preview first. Anything you assign by hand beats rules.

  • Reports

Day, week, month or custom totals by project, app and site, plus productive, neutral and distracting time and how much fell inside your working hours.

  • Timesheets

Export a CSV or PDF timesheet for chosen projects and dates, with optional rounding to 6 or 15 minutes.

  • Pause and private mode

Pause for 15 minutes, an hour or until you resume. Private mode counts time but keeps window titles and sites out.

  • Your data, on your PC

Never records keystrokes, screenshots or what is inside your documents, and never full web addresses. Exclude apps and sites entirely.
