Flipdeck help

Getting started

Flipdeck lives in the notification area (the tray). The first time it starts, a short setup lets you pick your tiles, with five suggested: Dark mode, Hide desktop icons, Mute microphone, Keep awake and Presentation mode. You can also choose your audio devices there.

  • Left-click the tray icon to open the flyout, then click a tile to flip it. A tile is filled with your accent color when it is on.
  • Tiles with a chevron have options, such as Keep awake for 1 hour or which part of Windows Dark mode changes.
  • Right-click the tray icon for Presentation mode, Settings, About / License and Quit.

If the icon is hidden under the ^ arrow, drag it onto the taskbar so it is always visible.

Customizing the flyout

Click Edit in the flyout to change it in place:

  • Drag tiles to reorder them, or use Alt+Left and Alt+Right.
  • Right-click a tile to make it wide or small.
  • Press Delete to remove a tile, and add hidden tiles from the list below.

Settings › Tiles does the same with a list, and is where you set a shortcut for each tile: click its box and press the keys. Backspace clears it. Flipdeck warns you if another tile or another app already uses the shortcut. Settings › General sets the number of flyout columns.

Presentation mode

Presentation mode is one tile that gets your screen ready to share. By default it hides desktop icons, turns on Do not disturb and keeps the PC awake. Choose what it changes in Settings › Presentation mode.

When you turn it off, each setting goes back to how it was. A setting that was already on before stays on. Quitting Flipdeck also ends presentation mode first, as long as Restore on exit is on.

If Flipdeck closes unexpectedly while presentation mode is on, it offers to restore those settings the next time it starts.

Audio and microphone

  • Audio output switches between two playback devices. Pick them in Settings › Devices (First device plays when the tile is off, Second device when it is on), or from the tile's chevron.
  • Bluetooth audio connects or disconnects one paired headset or speaker, chosen in Settings › Devices. If the device is out of range, Flipdeck tells you after a few seconds.
  • Mute microphone mutes every input and leaves their levels alone. Press Ctrl+Alt+M from any app. Turn the Show mic-mute badge and Show feedback for shortcuts options on or off in Settings › General.

Things Windows decides

  • Managed by your organization: on a work or school PC, a setting locked by policy shows this on its tile and can't be changed.
  • Not available: some tiles depend on your PC, such as Night light. The tile explains why it can't be used.
  • Screen saver off follows Windows' screen saver setting. If no screen saver is chosen, the tile says so.
  • Empty Recycle Bin always asks first, even from a shortcut. Emptied items can't be recovered.

Trial and license

Flipdeck is free to try for 14 days, with everything turned on. After that: Three tiles of your choice, and their shortcuts, keep working. The other tiles stay visible but turned off, and your settings are kept.

Entering your license key

  1. Buy a license. Your key appears on screen as soon as the payment goes through, and arrives by email.
  2. In Flipdeck, open the License page in Settings.
  3. Paste the key and choose Activate. The PC needs to be online for this step.

Using it on more than one PC

One key works on up to 3 PCs. To move it to a new PC, deactivate it on the old one from the License page first. If the old PC is gone, free up its place at Manage devices, using the email address you bought with or the key itself.

Once activated, Flipdeck works offline. When it's online it checks the license about once a week, so a refunded or revoked key stops working on its next check.

Bought Flipdeck in the Microsoft Store? The Store edition is licensed through your Microsoft account instead, and doesn't use a key.

Updates

To get the latest version, choose Check for updates in Flipdeck. It asks before installing anything.

Each update is checked against a fingerprint (SHA-256) before it runs, and installs over the current version without touching your data. Updates for the Microsoft Store edition come through the Store.

Your data and uninstalling

Flipdeck keeps its settings and data on your PC, in this folder (paste it into File Explorer’s address bar to open it):

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Hedgerow\Flipdeck

To back it up, quit Flipdeck and copy that folder.

To uninstall, open Windows Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find Flipdeck and choose Uninstall. The uninstaller asks whether to remove your data too.

Still stuck?

Email support@hedgerowapps.com and we’ll get back to you. Mention your Flipdeck version (shown in Settings › About) and your Windows version. More answers are on the support page.
