Write in plain text with light Markdown-style formatting that styles itself as you type. Organise your writing into groups, projects and sheets, then export a whole project as one Word document, PDF or web page.

There’s no Save button and no account. Every change is saved within a second, with snapshots of earlier versions and daily backups, and your writing stays on this PC as ordinary text files.

What it does

  • Clean text

Headings, emphasis, lists, quotes, links and highlights styled as you type, with the markup kept quiet. Comments are notes to yourself and never exported.

  • Projects and sheets

Group projects, split them into sheets, and reorder by dragging. The sheets in a project combine into one manuscript when you export.

  • Goals

Set a word or character goal with an optional deadline. Draftroom works out a daily target and adjusts it after a missed day.

  • Focus mode

Full screen, with everything but the current paragraph or sentence faded. Typewriter mode keeps your line in the middle of the window.

  • Statistics

Words, characters, reading time, sentences and paragraphs, plus your writing streak and the last 14 days.

  • Notes and keywords

Keep notes and attachments beside each sheet, tag sheets with keywords, and search the whole library.

  • Export

Word, PDF, HTML, Markdown or plain text, in Classic, Modern or Manuscript style, with a preview of the first pages. Or copy as rich text.

  • Never lose writing

Crash-safe autosave, snapshots you can restore, a 30-day Trash and a daily backup of your whole library.
